Kohler fuse blower
Hi, I have a toro lawn tractor with a kohler SV540 18 HP motor that keeps blowing fuses, sometimes quickly, sometimes after a few minutes. I may have found a probable trouble spot after searching the internet, I unplugged the rectifier-regulator and it ran for 5 minutes without blowing the 20 amp fuse. My question is, how can I test the rectifier-regulator to be sure if this is the problem? Could it be something else, such as the stater? Thanks. Dave

Well the power to the system flows through the regulator which also rectifies the current to DC. This is the most likely culprit if the fuses stay good with the regulator unplugged.
You can go to the Kohler website and download a service manual for your engine that will give detailed instructions on trouble shooting your charging system.
