Question Toro, push mower, pull starter?

A friend knows that I am a hands on person, so he asked it if could replace the rope on his TORO GTS-XL 6.0 hp push mower.

I removed the plastic cover and can see that the pull assembly appears to be held in place by 4 possibly POP RIVETS. They appear to be aluminum, but I don't want to drill out and find that pieces will fall in and cause a problem with the flywheel. It may be that I need to remove the complete steel shroud, but didn't want to do such if it isn't the way to complete the replacement of the pull rope.

Any and all info from you all is most welcome, and needed.

The easiest and correct way is to remove the shroud that the starter is attached to. You can access the starter pulley to install a new rope, and in many cases can do so without removing the pulley from the starter assembly. Simply wind the pulley up to create the spring tension needed to retract the pull rope, then install the new pull rope.

Best of Luck...
