15HP Briggs not Charging

I have a 15HP OHV Briggs. 28P777 that I jsut replaced the stator on it and it still appears not to be charging. I am getting 12.9 volts from the stator. Should I be checking AMP's instead of voltage? I have charged the battery and mowed with it and it appears the battery is being discharged some how or not charging. ANy help would be appreciated.

Thanks

12.9 volts indicates that the stator is indeed charging. How old is the battery? Sounds like a bad battery.

It was purchased at the beginning of mowing season. There were two low cells when I went to charge it.

You can have the battery tested at most auto parts stores, or try charging it, disconnect it from the mower while not in use, then connect it and see if it stayed up or drained next time you want to start the mower.

12.9 sounds like the stator is charging, but the battery is consuming a lot of the charge. Could be shorted plates in a cell.
