briggs problem

Hi. I have a 10 hp briggs and stratton engine on a small rear engine riding lawn mower. It starts up fine, but will start stuttering and popping after a few minutes and eventually will die. When I take off the air filter while it is running, it seems to run and sound better. When I go to put the air filter back on its starts sputtering again. Any suggestions?

When it starts sputtering and whatever try removing or losening the fuel cap, it may not be venting properly. Have a good one. Geo

Probably just a dirty or oil contaminated air filter element. Try a new air filter and spark plug and I think that will take care of it.
