Craftsman lawn tractor

I have a craftsman model 917.272352 and the manual shows what the ground drive parts are but not how to get to them. I depress the clutch to brake and nothing happens - the parts move but I think something is wrong with the bell crank clutch drive or the spring return clutch. I want to fix it myself - but need to figue out out how to get to those parts with pulling the whole tractor apart. Any ideas?

Do you mean that the brake does not work??

This could be a simple adjustment, or may need new brake pads, if this is the problem you are having.
