trouble with craftsman riding mower

hello,
my three year old craftsman riding mower is constantly stopping. It starts up fine, runs for about 30 seconds, then stops. It will not immediately turn back over; in fact it almost seems like the battery is dead, but if you wait five minutes then turn it over again, it starts right up and runs fine....for about 30 seconds then stops again. I thought it was bad gas, so completely drained the tank and lines. It ran well for about two weeks after that, but then started dying again. Any ideas on what is wrong with it?

Well it could be a number of things, but possible valve adjustments come to mind and or a carburetor issue.

Model and S/N number from tractor and or engine would be very helpful in suggesting a possible course of action.
