Lawn Boy Recoil Starter
I have a Lawn Boy model 8073 from 1987. I recently was trying to start it when the rope snapped. I have taken off the top green part to be able to access the recoiler. I have been unsuccessful in trying to find the rope end and possibly removing the recoil starter assembly. Can someone help?

Directly in front of the starter assembly on the engine block is a retaining screw that holds the starter assembly to the engine. Ref # 35 in the illustration in the link below points out this screw.
Loosen the screw and the recoil assembly should slide out of the block as an assembly.

Once you have the starter assembly out, the rope can easily be replaced. Be careful, if clip (ref # 8 ) is removed, then recoil spring assembly can jump out!
