Poulan 2175 "Wild Thing" chainsaw
I have a Poulan 2175 "Wild Thing" chainsaw. Had a problem with the recoil. Took it apart and found the end "J" of the spring had flattened out. Got a new spring. When trying to set the "J" end in it's place, the spring popped out and unwound.
Anyone have a "trick" to rewinding this spring?
Thanks.

I just wind them back into the band that they came in. In fact I keep a couple of the bands around in case I need to wind in an old spring.
Just start at the outside ("J") and wind it back into the band, using caution of course. Once you have it back in the retaining band, I use a pair of needle nose pliers to grab the spring and install. I also suggest using eye protection whenever working with recoil springs, they can jump out and bite you at any time.
