old homelite xl bar oiler problem

my xl is about 25 yrs old, runs like new, but the oiler which is activated by a manual pushing of a plunger, will not push any oil onto the bar.

I'm not overly familiar with the oiler on that saw, but I would suspect the seals on the plunger are worn or missing.

When you remove the cover plate that covers the clutch, it will expose the port that aligns with a slot in the bar through which the oil is pumped.
Sometimes dirt & saw dust plug this port. With the chain & bar removed you should be able to see oil expelled from this port while pumping, provided the tank has oil & the pump is working.

Yeah I agree on checking the oil slot (hole) in the bar first. If this is opened up then I'd go with the oiler as being the problem. Later!
