String trimmer spark is weak

I got a Homelite string trimmer in (model HLT-16), and with my spark tester I get a 3/16" spark but it seems weak. If I put the spark plug in and ground it I barely do get a spark (even with a new spark plug). Could this be a indication of a bad or weak ignition coil?

Can you get the trimmer to fire at all,by squirting some 2 cycle fuel in the carb.If not try a teaspoon of fuel down the spark plug hole.If it will run and die with fuel in the carb it is a carb issue,if you put fuel down the spark plug, and does not fire, it is a compression problem. The compression should be a least 90# or more.Check it with a compression gauge.I think if it will jump a spark across your spark tester, spark should be ok.Just my opinion.
