Craftsman tractor slips while driving
I have Craftsman tractor 917.255812 14hp auto. Older model about 22 years. When I drive it it slips and then grab with a sudden jolt. It occurs more when I drive in gears 3-5th, 1 & 2nd does not doit much. I have replaced the belt. The pulley's and idlers look ok. I even took the transaxle aparrt Foote 4150-6 and looked at all the gears and no teeth missing. Can anyone offer up any ideas?
thank you in advance

I suspect the clutch keys, item 19, part number 3676, on parts list, are worn. The clutch keys engage various gears selected through the shift lever. Also, inspect each part where the key engages for wear.

Craftsman tractor slips while driving
Thanks for the information guys. Is there a way to test this without pulling the transaxle. If I have to replace them is is worth it on a 23 year old tractor. Is it difficult to do.
thanks again
