B&S idle problem

I have a 19.5 horse B&s model no. 42E707 on a craftsman mower. It starts fine but will run, idle down to almost stall, run, idle down to almost stall repeatedly, worse when in gear. I have put on a new air filter, and fuel filter but no good, could this simply be old gas? or do I need to dive into the carb??

Thanks

That surging problem is normally a lean fuel/air mixture = dirty carb. Could be attributed to old gas. Changing the gas would be a good place to start.

See the other Briggs thread. I think you both have the same problem.

Open up the carb, clean it well, remove the main jet and clean it and the area behind it, and your problem should be solved.
