snowblower auger problems
I have an old Amf jr snowblower and i am having problems with the adjustments of the auger and chain tension. The main auger is attached to each side of the housing by two bolts which also retain in place the plates with diagonal grooves to allow for chain tension adjustments. Both screws are right threaded. There needs to be enough tension on the screws to hold in place the adjustment plates, but when I do this the screw on the right side facing the blower binds on to the housing as the auger is set in motion. If i loosen this side to allow for free movement the adjustment plates slide and everything comes out of alignment. There are no bearings in this set up just a bolt with a washer and a lock washer through the housing into the center of both sides of the shaft. The bolts move with the auger tending to tighten on one side and loosen on the other, This is factory set up i believe. I'm stumped, please help thanks.

I am thinking that maybe you put it back upside down, which puts the augers on the wrong side. The shaft that goes to the impeller has to be on top of the auger, not the bottom. If on the bottom, it is upside down.
