Older Craftsman chainsaw needs new bar/chain

I have an older craftsman saw and I would like to get a new bar and chain for it. I can figure out what I need for a chain but how do I know I am getting the correct bar. Non of the new bars I have seem list craftsman in their fitment list. Plus the serial number and model are wore off of the saw. Any input would be helpful.

Thanks,
Ryan

Call Sears repair--800-252-1698
Tell them what is stamped on the bar---see if that works.
Good luck.........................

Taking a guess here, the Oregon Bar&Chain Combo appears to be #105715. That is the only 18" Craftsman they list that has a .325 pitch. Your local shop probably can get or has Oregon parts.

model number please?

J Howard,

I have the exact same Craftsman saw (purchased 30 years ago) you show in the picture and the same challenge as Reel_Story - I can't find a bar and chain for it! My model number and serial number are worn off the sticker on the underside, without that info, Sears is useless.

Would you mind looking at your saw and telling me the model number?

Lowes sells a 20" bar/chain combo that I thought would work, the bar fits and has the oiling hole, but the chain doesn't match the clutch. The teeth that match the clutch must say 33 and the Lowes kit said 72. So it was close, but no cigar.

Thanks!

Thanks!

Thanks for checking, I'll hit the local small engine repair shop and see what they can find. The Oregon site has what appears to be the right stuff, so its still available.

Found it

Looks like the one I am tinkering with now. Bar is 774J as you stated and uses an Oregon 33 chain.

Model number for the 18" model is 917 353771.

Bar has a new part number of 180pxbd176, they did not have a new part number for the chain. I tried tried the Oregon 33SL-72 and it is too short, the -78 is too long. I found something that indicates it is 74 from Baileys. Comparing a 72 to the stock chain seems to support 74 or so.

For those that care, you can find the manual on-line. It has all the original part numbers. That is assuming your saw is a match to mine, which based on the manual is 3.7 CI.
