tecumseh governor not working

I have an Ariens snowblower with a 7hp Tecumseh. The engine runs good, however, when a load is placed on it, the governor isn't adjusting the rpms. I watch the gov. lever and it doesn't move, I can move it by hand and alter the rpm. Any suggestions? This is a fairly old engine. Thanks

It has a mechanical governor, they rarely fail. Check the linkage and spring setup, the linkage may have loosened and moved which I have seen or you may have a missing or broken spring.

Here is a view of your engine, check 52 and 55.

checked the spring and linkage and everything is tight. While the engine is running, I'll engage the auger and the governor linkage doesn't move at all. I guess I would think that there should be some kind of movement if the problem was with the linkage or spring, I'm not sure, haven't messed with governors much.

If the governor moves easily, my thought would be you may need a new spring.
