Sears Craftsman Eager-1 5hp won't start

I have an old Craftsman 5hp 22" 2 stage snowblower that won't start. I can barely read the serial numbers and don't (nor can find) a manual for it. The model is 536909400 and code 8214. I'm not sure of the engine manuf but am guessing a techumseh?? It is getting spark and fuel but isn't firing. I imagine it could use a carb cleaning and kit among other things. If I knew for sure the engine mfg I could try to find a carb rebuild kit. Does anybody have access to a manual or know the engine mfg? Also if you do could you tell me what the original spark plug was/

Thanks

Your unit shows to have been originally equipped with a Tecumseh Sears model number 143.687022 engine. The Tecumseh equivelant model number is HS50-67169B.

31840 shows to be the part number of the repair kit that the carburetor uses.

Best of Luck...

try putting a couple oz. of gas down the spark plug hole. If it runs for a second, you need to clean the carb.

I've also got the Eager 1 536909400.
I think my carberator is shot.
It was shooting gas out the side.
Can replace the entire unit?
Or would it be cheaper to have someone rebuild it?
If so, do you know the part number I can use to find it?
Thanks...

Carb kit about about $15. New carb about $125. Call shops in your area and ask how much to clean & rebuild the carb.
I was getting $55 for a carb rebuild plus parts.

Soak it with carb cleaner, blow it out with compressed air and put a kit in it.
