Who Made My Snow Blower ?

I have a Sears Craftsman 9HP snowthrower model#536.887990, the traction drive spring is shot. The problem is that the traction drive spring that Sears sends me as a replacement does not work (the original is short barrel spring with a long extension, so it does not touch the belts) the new model spring that Sears is selling now will not fit between the belt and the engine, chassis space. I figure if I go to the OEM, they should now what spring would be a good replacement. The funny thing is all the parts Sears sends are Briggs and Stratton, and this machine has a 9HP Tecumseh.

Briggs-Murray

Your machine was made by Murray-Noma which is now owned by Briggs. What part number do you have?

It goes from the chassis to the Traction Drive idler pulley.

What is the part number on the spring that you got?
The part # I come up with is 165X159MA.
