Toro 824 Auger Jammed

This morning bright and early.. or should I say dark and dreary...my machine began digesting a mat ... When I get home, I'm going to have to dislodge it... Is there a relatively easy way of disengaging the auger from the gear mechanism so I can freewheel it enough to regurgitate the mat?

Thanks
Robert

How old is the machine? If it is a newer 1 with levers on the handlebars, Then the auger dis-engages when the lever is released. You should be able to turn the impeller backwards ( forward is the direction of the impeller fins "L" shape pointing up towards the chute) while some one pulls on the mat.

The Mrs wasn't too thrilled to see me bringing the toro into the dining room.... but alas.. the only place I could thaw her out... after shredding the mat with a carpet knife... I was able to get the auger to let it go... and took the opportunity to replace the power auger cable (up and down mechanism cable) and replace the starter motor bolts.... next project.. belts. Thanks for your feedback. Beer 4U2
