Shear Pins?

I have a 1997 MTD 22' snow blower. Shaft spins
but augers can be turned either way when running or power
off. I'm thinking shear pins because a rock got stuck on one
and dummy me plowed a bit longer with only one auger working
so I probably broke the other shear pin. Can I replace these
while still on the blower because I cant get to the two pins
way back where the engine and auger shafts come together.
The model 317E611D352.

Shear pins are easy to replace. First thing you have to do is get the holes lined up and using a 5/16 punch drive out the broken part that is still in the shaft. You can line up the holes by reaching in and turn the impeller by hand.

Thanks Indypower that sounds easy enough. But can I do this
while still on the auger shafts and the drive shaft from the engine?Or how would I get the worm gear housing off the shaft?

Yes. Why couldn't you? The augers are right there in front of the snowblower easy to reach and see. No need to remove the worm gear housing. The shear pins are a bolt that goes thru the auger and shaft that drive the auger. Just a hole you put the bolt thru.
