Leaking gas tank

I just got a Briggs in (m-12H802, t-2639) with a leaking plastic gas tank. Which works better: JB weld or epoxy? The owner is going to use it for only a year or two. It's a very short crack, approximately 3/4" long.

If the equipment were mine, I might consider a repair.

If you are repairing this as part of a business I would not repair, I would replace. There are no authorized repairs for these fuel tanks. The liability issues are too great. There have been recalls on plastic tanks leaking because of the fire hazard. I did not see any recalls for the two different tanks used on the engine number you gave.

If you do decide to repair it, I would use epoxy. Look on Ebay for a gas tank.

I agree about not fixing it. If it leaks and causes a fire, the finger may point to you. I don't know of anything that sticks to plastic well enough to recommend it.

Like airman said, there have been many recalls pertaining to leaking gas tanks. You may be able to get a replacement tank for free.

Thanks for the good advice...I think I'm going to replace it. By the way, where can I get that recall information?

Call briggs with your model, type, and code to check on warranty/recall info about the tank.
