governer question


I have a tecumseh hsk845 with a 8222d carb 4.5 hp
mtd snownblower and the governer dosent pull back
the speed. springs are all on , i think it is a mechanical gov.
should run at 3800 rpm it is running much higher how do i fix the governer do i have to pull engine apart

Does the throttle shaft move freely? It could be stuck and just need some carb cleaner and gentle persuasion to work loose.

If the governor lever and carb lever all move freely then you are having an internal engine problem with the mechanical governor. I see several a year where the unit sticks on the crank and blows the rod before the engine can be shut down. You may have to split the engine to clean up the internal governor.
