recoil starter ?

I have a Sears gas blower that is about 3 years old. Went to use it yesterday and when I pulled the starter string to start it, the string came all the way out and now won't go back in. Any thoughts on what would cause this and how to fix. Thanks.

* oh sorry, just re-read your post, I thought that you were saying that the string came all the way out of the recoil, so please disregard my other posting below*

Thats happened to me with my snow blower and chain saw. On mine, the string goes through the small hole and around the the spring-loaded recoil. The string then went into a small plastic block with a hole in it, which was fastened to the recoil by a long staple. My string broke right where it went into the stapled block.
Take the recoil cover off and you'll see how your string was attached.

Could just be stuck. Bump the blower a few times on the ground and see if it recoils. If not, the spring may be broken as mentioned.
