Snowblower won't turn off - keeps running after key is "off"

I have an MTD single stage 4.5hp snowthrower from the 80's. It had a bad carb that I replaced and that did the trick to get it running, but now it won't turn off once I get it started. I turn the key to the off position and it keeps going. After a good couple minutes in the off position, it did finally start, but now I don't want to start it unless I can figure this issue out.

Any idea what could be casuing this? A faulty ignition switch?

First, check the wire to make sure it is grounded. Use an ohm meter or test light. 1 lead on the wire end and the other to the engine. You should get a reading (or light). If not, the wire is broken or has a bad connection.
The switch can not be repaired. New ones are not much $$.

Did the old carb have a fuel solenoid? The replacement?
I would agree you have a grounding problem and just a thought that a fuel solenoid may play some part since you did just change carbs.

Fixed

Thankf to all - the old ignition switch did indeed have a grounding problem (the whole wire was missing). I threw a new one on and voila!

Glad it was that easy.
