troybuilt xp self propelled wont propell itself

was mowing the lawn and the function stop working normally, it will try to assist momentarilly but not in the way it should and if you have the lever down and pull in reverse it growns. Took the bottom cover off and cleaned out the belt system, replaced the belt, nothing looks out of the ordinary (worn or otherwise), it is a rear driven self propelled lawn mower about 8 months old, any thoughts out there.

J830 series XP bought from lowes, under warranty, now I am reading in 06 they had warranty issues with the drive system, could this still be a problem or is it something simple?

If it is under warranty, go to Lowes and ask them who does their warranty work and call them to get it serviced for free.
Oh, and the actual model number is located on the back of the deck and should look like: 12av5xxx711

Agreed...it may be a pain for even simple things..but if it's under warranty..you want authorized repairs...esp in case something crops up later.
