Craftsman Lawn Mower..

Problem: The drive unit on my lawnmower quit working. Suspect the gear attached to the drive shaft is stripped.
Removed the wheels, the clips holding the gears that drive the wheels and thats that. Can't get the drive shaft out and didn't want to force it. So how does the drive shaft slide out?
Mower Model#917376301
Engine Model#143966500
TIA!

Once you remove c-clip, gear, and plastic dust shield you need to remove the wheel adjusters. Under the deck there are (2) 7/16 nuts holding each on. Apply a little wd-40 or equivalent on each end of shaft and adjuster should slide right off. You most likely will have to remove pulley and cable bracket from transmission as well. The bracket is mounted to transmission with (2) 3/8 bolts. once all this is done slide transmission to left and drop down. The plastic shield underneath has to be lined up with axle hole to slide through.
Pretty straight forward
