5hp briggs wont idle

I have a 5hp briggs and it will not idle I messed with the card needles and nothing. and its not the idle screw

first remove and clean carb and better yet rebuild it

I agree, rebuild the carb with new gaskets and if this has a diaphragm (I don't recall what carb these had). I believe it has the tank-mounted auto-choke pulsa-jet?

Did you clean the carb and verify that every internal passage is clear?

Could be an air leak. Check where the carb mounts, and where the intake mounts. Make sure there are no leaks there. Also, make sure the points are set properly, flywheel key is in good shape, and the engine has sufficient compression. If all checks out, there is still a carb problem.
