Lawn Boy - Engine Stumbles

I have a 3 year old Lawn Boy with 6.5HP Tecumseh engine. Even when the engine is fully warmed-up, it will sometimes begin to stumble as if it's going to stall.

The only way to correct it is to either open the gas cap for a moment or loosen it a little and leave it that way. My question is: Does this type of problem always involve the carb, etc. or could this be just a defective gas cap? Are mower gas caps vented? If so and mine was blocked, could it cause this type of problem?

Thanks.

Replace the gas cap, also check in the tank for any parts that may have fallen off the cap, they will evenually cover the fuel outlet and shut off the flow of fuel. They range from a foam piece to a dome piece of material of either black plastic or alunimum(sp). Have a good one. Geo
