troy built rider
I have a troy built lawn tractor model 13ap609g063.
it had a 18 hp single cylinder it was blown. I put on a
18 hp twin had it running. then no spark. It had a new coil on it. I unhooked the kill wire. It ran for about 5 min then quit.
I put a second new coil on it no fire. Unhook the kill wire. still no fire. cant believe that 2 new coils are bad. Is there somthing im missing? any suggestions ?

You're checking for spark with a grounded good spark plug? What are you using for the armature gap = about .010?
How old is the engine you put on it?

And are you using aftermarket coils? Did you verify that you do not have any voltage at all at any time ever on the kill wire? If you do, it can blow the new coil in less than 5 seconds.

Sounds like you just got a bad coil. Aftermarket coils never work for me. Sometimes they're bad out of the box, and sometimes they work for a few hours, but I don't think I EVER had good luck with one.

Good suggestion Hopkinsr2... The coil will say this side down, or cyl side on one side. It's easy to overlook, so maybe??

You have the whole Ignition system isolated with the kill wire off the coil & as the above quote ,it runs.. If you do not have any voltage ( how are you testing for volts & also check with the deck up, down, brake on, off & etc.. If its burning coils, & it runs with the kill wire off, Something has happened with the harness, ign switch or someone has something connected wrong..Check the kill wire for voltage while cycling all the safety switches thru all there operating range..& moving the ign switch & wiggle the entire wiring harness.. You have to dig a little deeper....Sorry,, Roger
