2 cycle string trimmers

What exactly is the purpose of the "heat dams" between the diaphram carburetor and the cylinder head other than preventing high heat from reaching the carburetor?

That is the reason. Otherwise the fuel would cook and you'd have a vapor lock problem.

Dose anyone know what the gas/oil ratio is for a Homelite HLT-16 string trimmer?
