Help please - MTD13AN682G729

I'm working on my son's riding mower (MTD 13AN682G729) and can't figure this one out. It starts and runs fine. The mower engages and runs. but it seems to be locked up - won't go forward or in reverse (Transmatic transaxle). I jacked it up and the drive wheels will turn in opposite direction, but not in the same direction, so the brake is not the cause. I was able to tow it from the back of his yard and push it around on his driveway by hand - then it locked up. Can both forward and reverse gears engage at the same time in a Transmatic? Any suggestions as to how I can fix it?

No, Sounds like you need to check the brake closer;

You may have to remove the whole brake assembly and clean the rust off the pins then lube.

Good Luck

I agree, I think your brake is indeed stuck. The wheels turning opposite directions is what it's supposed to do.

Smile thanks - you were right, and it now runs

My son will no longer have to be trying to mow an acre of land with a push mower. Thanks again!
