Im shopping for carbs.

Is the briggs model 693480 (from a briggs 19.5 twinII i think) compatable with a 18Hp I/C. I believe my old carb was a 394338.

How about one off a 42B707 ? is this just a newer version of the 422707?

Most all of the opposed twin in-block-valved vertical briggs engines can exchange carbs back and forth. From 16 hp to 21.

Thanks to all who've helped. The old girl is working pretty good after a new (used) carb and a carb rebuild.

Comparing the 2 carbs, the jets in my old one were larger than my new one. I can only assume it was like that from years of being cleaned incorrectly.

Still the odd puff of black, but i figure thats from all the carbon that likely is on the cylinder head and piston. Plugs are nowhere near as fouled as when i started this adventure

Thanks again.

One last question: When timing the mower blades (its a 44" with the cogged timing belt) should the blades be inline (well not inline but a few degrees out) or should they be perpendicular When at rest?

Perpendicular so that they can't hit even if something gets between them.
