B&S Governor Question

I have just overhauled my B&S 16 hp engine (Model 402707, Type 0148-01, Code 84101512) on my riding lawnmower. There two springs on the Governor, a larger one that is hooked to the middle hole of the contorl governor arm and a smaller secondary spring that has two holes to connect to. Unfortunately I did not mark which hole it was connected to when disassembling.

Can anyone help in determining which hole to use?

Well Ted,

I haven't worked on one of these in a while, I flipped my manual open and found nothing on this "governed idle" spring placement.

The best I can tell you is look closely at the inside edges of these holes, The inside edge should be worn shiny from the spring riding in it.

The most that can happen if you guessed the wrong hole is the idle speed would be higher than normal/before, If this is the case it can be moved to the other hole.

Good Luck
