Poulan Weedeater featherlite 1500 gas blower-no spark

I got this at a yard sale...

No spark... I opened it up and noticed that the ignition module was rubbing the magnet.

Can somebody please tell me....

1) what is the air gap between the magnet and the coil? I assume there is no timing but would guess the coil gets centered so that the same distance laterally is on each magnet.
2) is there any way to test the coil?
3) I may be missing something... is there supposed to be a wire on the spade terminal on the coil?(I do have the spark plug wire which comes out of the epoxy body) maybe a kill wire?

thanks.

Searay, Maybe I can help.. The gap between the magnets & coil should be about 0.010". I know of no real tests for the coils, But some of the Pros may help out there... The real test I do is as you have found,,, The kill wire is disconnected & you have no spark,, I'm afraid you probably need an ignition coil as that is the enitre ignition system...You should have a kill wire attached to the spade terminal.....Roger

Thanks- will try setting the gap later today

I figure I can spin the armature with a drill or something once
I set the gap to test for spark. Maybe I will get lucky.
