Carb Problems

I bought a go kart today that had a Tecumseh 6.0 (I think) motor on it the model number is OHH60 71106C, and I think it has a bad carburator. I took off the air filter and tried starting it and it started for a min but wouldnt stay started. While I had the air filter off a greyish tan colored almost slim looking fluid started coming out of the carburator and I have no clue about small engines. Can someone please help me.

Thanks,
The Fireman

Carb need cleaning. That fluid was most likely the old "varnish" gas. Remove the carb, take it apart, soak it in a carb cleaning solution (Gunk make a 1 gal w/dipping basket avaiable most auto parts stores). Make sure to soak the main jet, too. Then buy a carb kit and install it.
