I own a Honda HRS 21 selp propelled mower 6015998 I bought and have used since 1986 or so...engine is the GXV110...over the years the throttle control cable has required regular adjustment at the beginning of each year when maintenance is performed...Now the engine will not start and a local repair shop says I need a new "igniter"... is this what used to be called the points? Oil has been regularly, a new spark plug every year, stabilator in the fall etc. Can someone help me get this wonderful old machine running...

On the points thing, yes it is... sort of. Points/condenser setups pretty well got phased out around '86. The function of that setup was to switch between grounding the coil, then breaking the ground to allow the spark discharge.
The ignitor performs that function and sits separate from the coil. It's more of an electronic component.
In other systems you would still have a similar function to fire the coil.

Well, on the parts diagrams I have online I see only a coil and a stop switch with no igniter.
Normally the igniter isn't a big deal to replace - it's just one component with a wire going to the coil and the kill wire. Then you'd have a mounting screw for it. It's a lot more difficult to determine if the igniter is at fault and whether to spell it with an "o" or an "e".
I don't know if you have one on that engine, though. There's not one shown with the coil assembly.
I'm wondering, though, if the two component ignition on that mower wasn't changed over to a single module, which is an integrated electronic jobby. I would think you'd still be able to get all the parts.
