Fuel coming from primer

I've got a craftsman walk behind w/a 7 hp b&s. modle 917.378900 eng family ybsxs.1901ve 275078. It will start right up with one or two pulls, but when you stop to emty the bag, it will not start back up. If you push the primer, fuel will squirt out the hole. If you let it sit a few hours, it will start first pull. Any ideas, I need to get the lawn cut soon.

I would start by checking your valve clearances.

3 to 5 thousandths cold should be good
