8hp B&S pull start noise !!??

Hi all, my other lawn tractor started making a real bad noise today. A really loud squeal coming from the pull start. I shut it off quickly and when I tried to restart it the pull cord came out but never recoiled back in.

I just finished mowing the lawn, the tractor was in use for three hours then it happened. Never had a problem with it up til this point, pull cord always worked fine.

So am I looking at a new recoil assembly/ and or spring ?

Appreciate any help/insight

Cheers.
Wayne.

Sounds like the starter clutch, post engine model and type number and we can give you PN#. You could removed, clean up crankshaft end, couple drops of wd40 and you may be alright. Part is about $15 often best to replace

Actually I have three tractors only one is pull start tho . It's a little 8hp ford rear engine lawn tractor... fits in a mini van !!

Half pull it goes everytime. Easiest darn thing to start (until yesterday !).. love those B&S's. Now my 10hp Techsume snowblower is another story.. I'd sooner haul that darn thing back up the laneway and plug in to start than trying to pull it over.. stubbor @#[email protected]

Ok here's the numbers for the Ford lawn tractor..

Ford R8 09GN2051 ser# YC00208 3M19L11

8HP B&S 191702 2139-01 83113010

Thanks again guys
