CRAFTSMAN LAWN TRACTOR 17.5 HP, 42" MOWER
6 SPEED TRANSAXLE. MODEL 917.273372.
When depressing clutch, shifting to forward, motor dies.
Have changed the clutch switch and the blade switch.
Any ideas?

My guess is the clutch switch is not making correct contact or the switch is defective. One of the simplest ways to test the “Operator Presence System” is to jump switches. Below is a link to a manual that discusses the “Operator Presence System”. From the serial number of your tractor, you can learn the date of manufacture and with that, you can determine which manual, referenced below, applies to your tractor. The first six numbers are the date of manufacture, e.g. serial number 060199 is June 1, 1999

Check out the “Update Service Info.”, one may apply to your tractor:

Push the seat switch connector on tighter. You may have to put a cable strap around the switch and connector to keep them tight together.
