Mower belt keeps slipping off Craftsman 46" Model 917273070
Craftsman 46" Deck Model 917273070
The mower belt keeps slipping off, like every two-three minutes. I don't think, but not sure, if this model has a tension adjustment device. Could it just be an old belt, or should I troubleshoot something else before I spring for the new belt ($35)? (The belt does look somewhat old).
Thank You

Two things will usually cause a belt to come off. One, too loose. Check it by hand with the motor off but the mower drive engaged. If you can pull it more then an inch or so beyond it's normal alignment, it either needs adjusting - if that's possible, or replacement.
Two, one or more pulleys may be misaligned. You would probably need a service shop for proper repairs.

There are no belt tension adjustments for deck belt. Belt tension is maintained by springs attached to the idler pulleys. Inspect to see if a spring is broken, if not the belt just may be at the end of its life.
