IDC 580 Supreme - toughness
I have a IDC 580 Supreme and was wondering if anyone knows if it is as tough as it looks for a half crank trimmer, on the shaft is has a sticker "replace do not resharpen blades", I know, stickers are cheap. My sisters property has been neglected and has a lot of briars and small brush and as I have a star blade that would fit, I would give it a try, however I don't want to haul it 100 miles to be embarrassed either. Have a good one. Geo

I've never used one for long, and never used one with a blade. I don't like them to be honest. I don't even try to fix them when they come in. I think it would be on the end of my list for trimmers to do attempt the job with, but you never know. No offense to your trimmer, it must be serving you well just by the fact that you still have it and it must be 15-20 years old.

Cheese;
I got the trimmer from someones trash, it had bad fuel lines, doesn't look like it was used very much. I thought since I had it and the blade I might as well give it a shot, if it breaks it breaks. I also have a Stihl FS-85 with a Redmax SST-229 blade with the chainsaw type teeth for the bigger brush and a chainsaw for what that won't handle. This is starting to sound like work. Have a good one. Geo

Yep, go for it, just don't go 100 miles with it and no backup expecting it to do the job. You never know though...it might just do it.
