8hp Briggs alternator retrofit..
Hi DIYers,
I've got an old Briggs model 190412-0991 which is sans alternator. Is there a complete alternator kit available that I could install onto this machine? I need some solid amperage for lighting, heated hand grips and maybe a window motor based chute turning device for the old MTD. pn's and sources would be greatly appreciated.

i did a little looking around and found this..

So if there's no all-in-one kit available i'd need to piece together a flywheel with alternator magnets in it, a stator and a voltage regulator? I've got a bad feeling that the flywheel is NLA.. might have to find it used.
Another issue i'm wondering about is if the aftermarket electronic ignition module will be affected in any way by the new flywheel or alternator circuit.

No, the ignition should work the same. You also should not need a regulator if you buy an alternator with a diode inline.
