Honda HR216 stalls when engaging cutters
Hi,
I have a Honda HR216 mower, which has been stunningly reliable in the 20 years (!) or so that I have had it. I do change the oil every so often, and the plug, but other than that it has been pretty much untouched.
However, it now stalls (or the blade drive slips) as soon as I try to engage the blades. It is fine if just engaging the motion drive.
The blades are all of a sudden very stiff to turn, so I am guessing that something has deteriorated in this part of the system and is causing way too much friction for the engine to handle.
Is there an easy lube point that I can try, or does it need a full strip down to fix?
Many thanks in advance!

I wonder if a bearing is bad in the clutch. I can't quite remember every detail about how the clutch is made, but I think I recall a bearing that would cause this problem if it seized.

Would this manifest itself when the clutch is disengaged? The blades are stiff to turn even without engaging the clutch (e.g. with the mower turned on its side, and no hand pressure on the clutch lever, I struggle to turn the blades with my foot - engine off/throttle closed, of course!)

The blade in the disengaged position is against a blade brake, which would make it hard to turn in the off position as well.
