Craftsman 17.5 hp lawn tractor - where is oil filter?

I have a Craftsman 17.5 hp lawn tractor, model 917.273372. The manual says to change the oil filter every other time you change the oil. I don't see any oil filter on the engine and I don't see one on the parts list. Is there really no oil filter?

Thanks

If you don't see one screwed onto the side of the engine, it doesn't have one. Most briggs engines don't, but some do.
