Gas Leaf Blower

BG55 Stihl Leaf blower
Worked without any maintenance or repairs since 2002
Now suddenly it won't go full speed anymore.

Replaced the fuel and air filters and the plug

The parts guy says he hardly ever sells magnetos for this machine
adjusting the high speed mixture screw doesn't help so I returned it to factory setting.

It runs at half speed and then seems to pick up some speed but if the throttle is squeezed to full, it dies. Then I release the throttle, it idles OK, and then the whole sequence is repeated.
Goosing the throttle gets me by.

Sometimes it seems to heal itself at full throttle but the speed isn't there.

Muffler failed, restricting the exhaust?
Governor is intermittent?
What next?

Sounds like you covered most of the important stuff.. Check the lines close for cracks or pinched shut... You may be due for a carb kit as after 7 years, the rubber diaghragms get stiff & won't meter the fuel as they should... Check the lines than look into a carb kit.... Roger

I'm with Roger, after seven years the diaphragms need replacing. What brand and model number carburetor does it have?

Dunno' yet. . .I'm going to check that the spark can jump 0.166", etc., first.
Thanks, guys. . .I hope Stihl doesn't want to many bucks for just the parts. They won't sell me a Factory Manual, parts list or exploded view.
Next time I buy from Sears.

If you had bought a Sears blower you would probably be on your third one by now. Stihl makes some of the best equipment on the market. With that said, your blower will most likely have a Zama carb C1Q on the casting somewhere will be the rest of the number, my records show it to be a S68A, S64, S55 or S50 the kit for the carb will probably be about $12 since very few places sell only the diaphram kit. If you install a new kit use the old metering arm unless the old one is very worn as it has the proper height setting. Do not soak the carb in bath cleaner, blow out all holes cracks and crevases with brake parts cleaner as it doesn't leave a residue. Visit the Zama site, select the Service/Aftermarket tab for some good technical info. Have a good one. Geo

After rereading your post, you may have a blocked spark arrestor, remove the muffler and see if the screen or exhaust port is clogged, if so cleaning it and the exhaust port may solve your problem. Have a good one. Geo
