Smile craftsman snow thrower help

We have a 10 hp 32 cut craftsman track drive snow thrower with tecumseh engine from the mid 80's. I think the engine number is 143796102. The problem it started and ran, but killed.Gave it full choke and it ran a little longer, then killed. Loosend the gas cap and it ran no problem . But the cap is not the vented type. Any advise.
Thanks Willey:

Thank AJ
It seems the guts from the cap fell into the gas tank. The inside of the cap looked a lot different than on a similar machine. Beer 4U2 :Thanks again
