Craftsman Lawn Tractor Engine Problems

Hi all. I have a Craftsman 48" mower, model # 917.275023. Everything was great over the summer, was digging a hole, had a trailer attached, hauled the dirt off, came back and shut it off. Dug some more, but this time when I went to start it, it sputtered and shuttered then turned off. The only way that I can keep it running is by pulling the choke all the way out, and then some (what I mean is, if I pull the choke all the way out and let go, it retracts some, even this isn't enough, I have to pull it out until it stops, and hold it there).

So, over the course of a few hours, it went from ok to this. Anybody have any idea what it may be?

Thanks,
Doc

Sounds like you have some dirt in the gas tank, which is now in the carb. First, try running it with the gas cap loose. Gas cap vent could be clogged.
