TORO snowthrower problem

It is the 38052 model, at least 20 years old, with a 5hp Tecumseh engine. Has always worked great. This winter started out strong and then just started dying after about running for 30-45 seconds. It seems to rev, lose rpm, rev again, etc...until it just dies. I took off and cleaned the carb and all components, seemed pretty clean though. Gas is fresh. I pulled the plug and cleaned it too. Any ideas? I am stumped. Thanks, in advance.

The symptoms you listed are of a dirty carb. Did you soak it in a carb cleaning solution for about 2 hours? Even tho it looks clean, there are tiny pinholes that dont take much at all to clog. Adjustments for your carb are 1-1/2 turns out from lightly seated on both hi & low speed. Also, for $2.50, I would buy a new spark plug.
