Powermate 5000 slowly lost one phase

Figure I worded that correctly.....running the gen last night and after 4 hrs I started to notice my air handler slow down and the lights flicker...one of the hot legs was losing current and then went dead...still had the other side though at 122V.

Went outside today and I have 120 on both legs, not sure what the deal is but the brushes are good, I checked all the diodes and all register the same, capacitor is good, not sure what else to check.

Despite my feeble attempt to secure all the wires at the connector, apparently I didn't crank down on them enough.

Alot of frustration yesterday with the power outage and the 2 feet of snow....easy to overlook. This time it's done right, thought I was going to strip the lugs but they take a good deal of torque to tighten...all is good.
