Ariens Snowblower issue

ok first post and looking for help my Ariens snow blower seems to take quite a bit of Priming to get it going and usually once it gets going it does well but tonight i noticed the Silver plate which covers the exhaust getting Brite Red in Color so i shut it down let it sit and started it up again i tried to turn choke down thinking this was maybe it and also lowered the throttle but this cover was red hot and i just shut it down and shoveled the rest of my driveway any tips are troubleshooting would be great

You have 2 different problems.
1). Primer. Could be the hose is cracked.
2). Carb needs cleaning. Red hot exhaust indicates the engine is running lean. Lean condition is cause by a dirty carb. Carb needs to be soaked in a carb cleaning solution. Then a kit installed.
