B&S 18.5 HP Oil leaking from fuel pump and ohv case

I have a 5 year old mower with a Briggs 18.5HP ELS500 with OHV. It has started to leak quite a bit of oil out of the screen on the fuel pump...and also around the OHV cover. It smokes quite a bit.

What are all the possible causes??

Thanks!!

While my knowledge of engines is limited, I think that it could be as smiple as a clogged reed valve, or as complex as a cracked piston ring. Both could cause the symptom that you have, and there may be other causes as well.
I will resort to my available data and try to better answer your next question.

I'm thinking a head gasket leaking into the pushrod cavity causing pressure to build up in the crankcase if this is an OHV engine,, If you post the actual engine numbers, I'm sure the pros will give you an answer... Roger
